Social media reacts: Five-star WR Ryan Wingo commits to Texas – 247Sports

Five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo took on Texas over Missouri on Wednesday afternoon, much to the delight of Longhorns fans. The St. Louis native was considered a strong Texan over the last few months before Mizzou gained some momentum over the last two weeks. Many predicted that Wingo would actually choose Missouri before he arrived on Wednesday, before intelligence pointed to the Longhorns again.

Such a large addition was met with a wide range of reactions, largely due to Texas’ commitments. Listen.

Wingo will team up with his fellow wide receiver Parker Livingstone in Austin. The Lovejoy star has been involved with the Longhorns since joining the class over the summer.

“The coaches and the culture they have, it’s incredible. She is second to none,” Livingstone said when he committed. “I think it’s one of the best in college football. They have the possibility of losing four receivers this year, and they don’t really have the outside presence they would like for Sark’s offense. I think I’m a good fit.” For that. In the meetings we had, they told me how they had seen me in the film. I just think it’s a good fit for me and my family.”

Signing the Texas quarterback Trey Owens Must be excited to have a five-star wide receiver with him. Owens has taken a leading role in the Longhorns’ recruiting.

“Of course, talk about the team that’s here now and if we do what we’re supposed to do, we’ll probably be in the top four teams this year, I think, and because there’s a lot of other schools recruiting them that can’t do that , what we do and are “And this close to home, it’s kind of unbeatable,” Owens said over the summer about the way he recruits other Texas targets.

Four star security Jordon Johnson Rubell is another long-time commitment to Texas after joining the class over the summer. He is one of two IMG Academy Longhorns commits with a four-star running back Jerrick Gibson.

“I definitely like what Sark and Coach Gideon are doing down there,” Johnson-Rubell said of why Texas. “They recruit SEC guys, they go to the SEC, their plan is great. They’re building a foundation there.”

Johnson-Rubell was also happy with the direction of the UT course over the summer.

“I have a feeling it’s going to be a top 10 course, we’re definitely going to have a lot of people from Texas and other states as well,” he said.

Texas wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator Chris Jackson was the lead recruiter for Wingo. The two have developed a close bond since Jackson joined the team this year.

“Coach C-Jack, he’s been with me since January,” Wingo said after visiting Austin for the Wyoming game. “He texted me like he did the first day he arrived. Since then we’ve just had a great connection, a great bond. At the same time, his coaching style is a great coaching style. He came out of the NFL for many years. So I think it’s great to have that in a receivers coach.”

Signing the Texas defensive back Santana Wilson joined the Longhorns’ class at the start of the summer wave of signings, and the NFL legacy hasn’t waned once.

“Defensively, it’s a great school,” Wilson told 247Sports about his commitment to the Longhorns over the summer. “My dad and I are very close with the coaching staff. “Coach Joesph has basically taken me under his wing and I can’t wait to work with him as a family and as a player and become one of the best cornerbacks in Texas.”

Texas will likely lose a good portion of its offensive production this offseason to the NFL Draft, which offers young players like Wingo the opportunity to come in right away and compete for playing time. Texas recruiting director Brandon Harris was an extremely active part of the Longhorns’ recruiting efforts during his time on the Forty Acres. Wingo is another example of the nationwide reach of this staff.

“They definitely helped themselves,” Wingo said of his recent visit to Austin for the Wyoming game. “Their offense, even though they weren’t able to do what they enjoy doing, which is throw the ball down the field, they still showed off their running game. Being able to do that showed that you can still produce without having to do what you do best.”

You know it’s a big deal when the official Texas football account is involved in the response.

“I really think the good quarterbacks are there right now,” Wingo said after his last visit about what he likes best about Texas. “You have a quarterback that is in the system, especially Coach Sark’s system, that offense is crazy. I think just being able to play offense is a great opportunity.”

Five-star athlete and Texas A&M commit Terry Bussey, also a Texas destination, sent Wingo his good wishes. Bussey has been on LSU’s flip radar in recent weeks. Texas hasn’t been as involved lately, but hosted him for an official visit back in June.

“Texas has moved up to one of the top spots in my recruiting,” said Bussey in the summer before his commitment to the Aggies. “You definitely gave me some food for thought for the future. I just really enjoyed the atmosphere of the coaches and players. My host for the weekend was Juan Davis and I really resonated with him. I like him a lot and he told me a lot of real things about the program that helped Texas recruit me.”

Texas NIL collective “Texas One Fund” responded to Wednesday’s news. Wingo pointed to the Texas offense, plans and NFL development for selecting the Longhorns. Obviously, Austin has plenty of NIL chances as we’ve seen in this new era of college football.

“My things have been the same for a long time and it’s a place where I can grow and a coach who can help me get to the next level,” Wingo told Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports about what’s important to him.

You can watch the recording of Wingo’s engagement, which was live on the 247Sports YouTube page.

“Just that offensive plan and how they use their players,” Wingo told Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports. …

… “The feeling of being at home when I’m with the players and coaches. I feel comfortable when I’m there, which was a big thing for me.”
