Jack Hughes’ successes are explained by his brother

There are now three Hughes in the National Hockey League, but Jack, the New Jersey Devils forward, is certainly the one that stands out the most early in the season. This comes as no surprise to his brother Quinn.

Last year, Jack Hughes exploded with 99 points in 78 games, but that’s nothing compared to his first six games of the 2023-24 season. The first pick of the 2019 draft has already amassed 17 points, matching Mario Lemieux’s mark from 1995-1996.

He’s having a lot of success right now, but I expected that,” said Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes, who made his comments on the TNT network Wednesday night.

“He is a special player,” added the defender. […] Even though you’ve seen him over the years, you don’t show it often, but he’s a very competitive guy. He cares about his team’s performance. He’s the busiest guy in the summer.”

For comparison, Hughes has seven more points than Connor McDavid at the same point last year, during his breakout 153-point season. If he keeps up the pace, he could set a record of 232 points, which is highly unlikely.

Caufield and company

Quinn says the hard work of his brothers Jack and Luke, who also wear a Devils uniform, is paying off. In the summer, the trio trains with a great line-up of stars, from which everyone benefits.

“We have a great team that trains with us. Dylan Larkin is one of our closest friends and he is having an exceptional season. There are also [Matty] Beniers, [Cole] Caufield, [Zach] Werenski and [Adam] Fantilli. “It’s a fun group that always tries harder,” explained the 24-year-old guard, who has six points in as many games.

He also said he is very excited to face Luke for the first time, but he will have to wait a bit. The Canucks and Devils will meet twice this season, on December 5th and January 6th.
