Threads adds polls and GIFs as it continues to hunt for X – The Verge

Meta lets you conduct polls and insert GIFs directly from the Threads post composer, the company announced Thursday. Later in the day, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced that the company is testing the number of views on threaded posts and pinned posts in profiles and in your replies.

Zuckerberg’s survey offers three options (you can add up to four) and a timer that counts down how long users have to complete the survey in real time, which is a nice touch. To see the results of the survey, you must participate. If you vote, Threads will notify you when the poll is complete.

To make sharing GIFs easier, you can select a new GIF icon to search for GIFs from Giphy. The picker displays GIFs that are trending, or you can use the search bar to find a specific GIF.

The new Threads tests also include functions that you may know from X. “The view count is interesting because I think if we shipped Instagram or Facebook today we would probably have it,” he wrote on Thursday. “They give people a better sense of their reach, and in general more feedback is a good thing.”

Pinned posts are a staple of X Profiles, but Threads expands on this idea by allowing you to pin a reply to a post. Mosseri says both the View Count and Pins tests are “live now for a small number of people.”
