LIVE War in Ukraine: EU promises support for Kiev "as long as necessary" TF1 INFO

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky returned to the X-Network on Thursday for his videoconference intervention at the European Council summit. “Ukraine is doing everything to end this war with our victory as quickly as possible,” he said, thanking its allies for their support, especially military. “Sustainable arms supplies to Ukraine mean lasting security for all of Europe and for each of our neighbors,” he said.

“We remember Europe’s past. Millions of lives have been destroyed by the lack of unity. The kind of unity that exists now. (…) It is our historical responsibility to prevent the past from never coming back one day,” he also insisted, calling for mobilization against the Russian threat. “Russia is fighting today not to stay in our Mariupol or in Crimea, but to be able to come to Tartu (in Estonia) or Gdansk (in Poland) if it wishes,” he said. “Russia is trying to change the borders of Ukraine, not only to conquer one or another of our regions, but also to change all the borders that it does not like,” he still said.

He also announced that he had signed a law that “significantly strengthens financial controls over public figures in Ukraine,” a “very important” text for his country’s EU accession. “It is clear that every nation’s path towards the EU is a work based on merit and institutional development. Ukraine is doing this work. And it is going well,” he emphasized, assuring that Kiev “has practically implemented seven recommendations of the European Commission”. “We count on your unity in response – the decision to start negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union” , he said, hoping that accession negotiations could begin at the next European summit in mid-December.
