The Pentagon reported on Thursday (26) that it had mobilized 900 American troops in the Middle East to prevent a regional escalation of the conflict between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas.
Pentagon spokesman General Pat Ryder said at a news conference that no military personnel had been sent to Israel. The 900 have already been or are currently being deployed to the US Central Command (Centcom) area of operations operating in the Middle East, Central Asia and parts of South Asia.
“I can confirm that they are not flying to Israel. The intent is to support regional deterrence efforts and further enhance capabilities to protect U.S. forces,” he added.
The US has also deployed two aircraft carriers to deter Iran and the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah from joining the conflict.
In addition, the country has warned in recent days of an increase in attacks on its bases in Syria and Iraq.
