A disturbing scene unfolded on Long Island Thursday when Erik Brannstrom left the game between the Senators and Islanders on a stretcher.
Midway through the second period, the young Sens defenseman was tackled by Cal Clutterbuck and his head absorbed the impact.
Brannstrom remained on the ice for many minutes and suffered cramps. He was then left conscious on a stretcher.
The “Sens” issued a reassuring update on the 24-year-old guard’s health during the game on the X platform.
“After being injured in the second period this evening, Sens defenseman Erik Brannstrom is alert, using his extremities and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation,” the Senators said.
The Ottawa club ended up losing 3-2, with Noah Dobson scoring the winning goal with 13:15 left in the final period.
