The 19-year-old young woman who was killed in her home in the Maizerets district on Wednesday evening may have been the victim of reprisals related to a denunciation.
Sources told Radio-Canada that Daphnée Jolivet encouraged a young woman to report her attacker, who was a member of a street gang. According to our information, everything indicates that this denunciation could have a connection with the murder.
Daphnée Jolivet was allegedly killed while in the basement of the family home. A 16-year-old boy also suffered serious injuries in the attack. His life would now be out of danger.
Young suspect charged
On the evening of the events, the police arrested a 16-year-old young man further away in the neighborhood. He was in a minivan that ended up in an apartment building. According to our information, the vehicle belonged to a family member of the victim. This would have prompted the police to carry out checks at her home.
The teenager was formally charged Friday morning with impaired driving and vehicle theft. Although he is not facing any charges in connection with the murder of Daphnée Jolivet, the court banned him from communicating with the 16-year-old victim and members of her family.
The public prosecutor’s office refused to release him. He will remain in custody at a juvenile detention center.
His performance took place in the presence of his parents, but he avoided their gaze. He stole a glance at them before quickly turning away and making his way to detention.
His case will be referred back to the juvenile board next Friday for a release review.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the murder and attempted murder continues.
