Daphnée Jolivet may have been the victim of reprisals, according to various sources familiar with the matter who wished to remain anonymous.

The latter would have encouraged a young woman to report her attacker to the authorities in 2022. The person involved in this case is currently awaiting trial in another ongoing case.

Recall that the 19-year-old young woman was found lifeless in the basement of her family home along with a 16-year-old boy who was seriously injured. A bladed weapon was allegedly used to attack her.

It was the arrest of another 16-year-old for impaired driving and vehicle theft that led authorities to the macabre discovery. However, his role in this whole story is still unclear.

A caring woman

Angered by the events, friends still puzzle over what could have motivated the assassin to attack such a “sweet woman.”

“She was so attentive to everyone that we all find it hard to believe. I wish I had had the time to tell her that she meant a lot to me,” breathes Gabrielle Guay, a long-time friend of the victim.

The news was like a bombshell for the young woman, who was studying special education technology, around her. She had “no shady employees,” say friends contacted by Le Journal.

“She was such a sweet, extraordinary woman. She chose her friends well, she would never have met unsociable people,” says Marie-Ève Boîteau, a friend of Ms. Jolivet since elementary school.

“Nobody is safe”

Given the incredible attack that hit the young woman and the other murders that have occurred in the area since the beginning of the year, many questions are being asked about her own safety.

“I think everyone is feeling a little insecure right now. “If a woman like Daphnée could be attacked like that, no one is safe,” complains Gabrielle Guay.

A heart “so big”

Like her circle of friends, her colleagues at the Mgr Marcoux Center (CMM) can hardly believe that they will no longer see the discreet smile that Daphnée Jolivet gave as she walked through the door.

“It was a shock for everyone when we heard the news. Daphnée, she spent a lot of time at the center of her life. When she was young she came here to the day camp and often took part in the activities, then she worked as a counselor for several summers,” says general director Olivier Mercier.

The young woman had been a community organizer for Adozone for a year. Every week she spent evenings with teenagers who attend CMM. She organized activities and trips to provide them with a positive environment and enable them to build relationships with each other.

“You have to have such a big heart and unparalleled patience to work with this clientele, and Daphnée had those great qualities,” notes a colleague who met Le Journal.
