Restaurant Apsara closes its doors | JDQ –

A large Quebec family is retiring from the restaurant business.

The Khuong family, owners of Apsara for more than 46 years, have decided to close their famous restaurant.

The restaurant is a real institution in Old Quebec. It opened in 1977 on Rue St-Cyrille (now Boulevard René-Lévesque) and has been located on Rue d’Auteuil since 1981.

“For more than 46 years, we have had the great privilege of welcoming you into our family unit, serving you and sharing unforgettable moments with you,” wrote the Khuong family, who came to Canada in 1975.

“These precious minutes will remain in our memories forever. We wanted to say thank you for that. We are grateful to you for taking us in, adopting us, choosing us and encouraging us all these years,” their thank you message also says.

Retired

The adventure comes to an end for them.

“Today, with a heavy heart and a sense of job done, we announce that we have made the difficult decision to allow the tradespeople who have been there from the start a well-deserved retirement. So the Apsara says goodbye.”

The life of this large family of Cambodian origin has aroused admiration in Quebec.

In 1975, businessman Beng An Khuong, his wife, 12 of his 16 children, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law and grandchildren emigrated to Quebec to escape the communist regime.

There were about forty in total.
