Hamilton 13, Sycamore 10 – FINAL

In the second year of the Arvie Crouch era, Hamilton picked up the first playoff win in program history on Friday night, defeating GMC rival Sycamore in a low-scoring affair. Hamilton’s special teams came up big, starting with Roemale Shephard-Ruffin’s 80-yard punt return touchdown in the second quarter to start the scoring.

Hamilton blocked a game-winning field goal attempt by Sycamore later in the second half. Trailing 10-7, Hamilton took the lead for good with a 21-yard touchdown throw from Antonio Mathis to Nicholas Lindsay with 11:54 left in the fourth quarter. Mathis was 12 of 16 through the air.

Sycamore, which was in the playoffs a year after going 0-10, came on the field with a safety in the second quarter after a Hamilton snap sailed out of the end zone. The Aviators would take a 10-7 lead in the third quarter on Seth Truter’s 32-yard touchdown pass to Gio Garrett. Eugene Harney led Sycamore’s offense with a game-high 102 rushing yards on 22 attempts.
