The suspect in the largest attack on civilians in the United States this year was found dead after apparently committing suicide with a gun on Friday evening, authorities said. Robert Card was found at 7:45 p.m. local time in Lisbon Falls, Maine, near Lewiston, the site of Wednesday’s massacre, authorities said at a news conference Friday evening.

Card, a member of the U.S. Army Reserves, was wanted by hundreds of security officers and was the only suspect in the shooting attack that killed 18 people and injured 13 at two locations in Lewiston. Earlier Friday, police released the names of the victims and said they had been tracking 40yearold Card’s whereabouts for more than 500 days.

According to security officials, Card was using a .308 caliber rifle, which can be used for hunting. It was unclear whether this would have been the only weapon. Earlier this week, Katie Card, the suspect’s sisterinlaw, said he started hearing voices. She noticed that her brotherinlaw was briefly in a psychiatric hospital this summer and begged him to turn himself in. Source: Dow Jones Newswires. (Estadão Conteúdo)
