An open day was held at the Quebec courthouse on Saturday to celebrate the institution’s 40th anniversary and also make justice accessible.
The Marc André Bédard building was therefore open to the public, who could attend round tables with experts in the field and visit places normally reserved for the public, such as the cell block reserved for prisoners and the jury deliberation room.
Around thirty justice sector stakeholders, including judges and police officers, were present to answer questions from the public and explain their roles and responsibilities.
The people TVA Nouvelles met that day said they were happy to be able to learn more about what was going on at the institution.
“I found it really interesting,” says one woman. My children see cops and cops, but don’t know what role they play. So the people here were able to explain to us what benefit they have here in the courthouse.”
“Just seeing the architecture and knowing where we can work later is fun,” adds a Laval University student.
This is the first open house event at the Quebec Courthouse since 2009.
