The first half of November risks preparing the table for the winter season… before the mild weather comes into its own again.

Recent incursions have been rare in recent weeks, but the situation is expected to change in early November. The movement of a cold center high north of Hudson Bay will extend its tentacles to Belle Province, opening the door to cooler air typical of fall.

The first third of the month is expected to be particularly cool, especially compared to October, which was quite hot. “The impression will prevail that we have paved the way to a more confident autumn,” explains meteorologist Réjean Ouimet.

Therefore, no exceptional heat waves like those in September and October are to be expected.

Turnaround situation

This atmospheric context is likely to dominate until mid-November, when the cold air mass is likely to shift a little further away. In addition, the lack of a ridge over Greenland and Alaska is likely to favor a trend reversal.

“This year, this drop in temperature will be slowed,” estimates Mr. Ouimet. Quebec could therefore return to a warmer mercury just as the latter tends to sink towards winter.

AP TEMP4

Seasonal normals are actually quite low in November, generally varying between 0 and 5°C depending on the region. From November 15th there may be a slight increase of up to 15°C, but its scope and intensity is often limited. “It is often associated with a disturbance that comes to us from the south and brings mild air to us,” explains Réjean Ouimet.
