Former US Vice President Mike Pence throws in the towel in the race for the presidential nomination of opposition Republicans. “To the American people I say: This is not my time,” Pence told attendees at the Jewish Republican Coalition conference in Las Vegas on Saturday. He made no electoral recommendations, but called for the election of someone who appeals to the best sides of people and who can lead with “education.”
Pence launched his presidential campaign last June. However, his campaign never got off the ground. Pence fell far behind in the polls and, according to media reports, had trouble raising money for his campaign. “We always knew it would be a difficult fight, but I have no regrets,” he said.

The 64-year-old met with his former boss, former president donald trump, played. He has repeatedly warned that no one who puts himself above the US Constitution should be allowed to become President of the US. On the day the Capitol was stormed, on January 6, 2021, Trump asked him to choose between Trump and the Constitution. Pence, as then president of the Senate, refused to block the certification of Joe Biden’s electoral victory. Many Trump supporters see this as a betrayal, and Trump himself has accused him of cowardice.
Archconservative Pence has stood loyally by Trump’s side throughout his controversial presidency. Since taking over Congress, he has increasingly distanced himself from Trump. Presidential and parliamentary elections will take place in November 2024. In the preceding months, the candidates of the respective parties are determined through extensive primaries.
The field of Republican candidates is led by former US President Trump. Additionally, among others, the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantisand former US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, on the run. The US president is running for the Democrats Joe Biden for re-election. As an incumbent, he is unlikely to face any serious competition within the party in the election campaign.
