American actor Matthew Perry, 54, one of the stars of the hugely successful television series “Friends”He was found dead in his home in Los Angeles, the American press reported on Saturday.
Law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times that Perry was found unconscious in the hot tub at his Los Angeles home. The LA Times and the website TMZ, which first reported the news, reported that there were no signs of crime at the scene, according to anonymous sources.
Perry became known for his role as Chandler Bing in the popular NBC series “Friends,” which aired for ten seasons between 1994 and 2004. He struggled with addiction to painkillers and alcohol for years and visited rehabilitation clinics several times.
In his memoir “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing”, published last year, Perry said he had undergone detoxification 65 times and spent around US$9 million (R44 million at current prices) to stay sober .
He also suffered from health problems, including a ruptured colon caused by drug use in 2018. He underwent a sevenhour surgery and had to wear a colostomy bag for months after the operation.
Perry dedicated his book to “all those suffering out there” and wrote in the prologue: “I should be dead.” The website TMZ also reported that no drugs were found at the crime scene. According to the website, Perry was found by his assistant, who called emergency services.
