More than 8,100 Palestinians have died in the past 23 days due to Israeli bombings in the Gaza Strip and the increase in violence in the West Bank, the Health Ministry reported this Sunday.

In its latest report on the situation in the occupied territories, the Palestinian ministry said that 8,500 people died and 20,000 were injured in the neighboring state’s airstrikes in the coastal enclave.

Another 114 were killed and two thousand more were injured in attacks by Israeli security forces and settlers in the West Bank.

He reported that 73 percent of those who died were minors, the elderly and women.

During this period, 34 percent of hospitals and 65 percent of primary health care centers in the area ceased operations, he warned.

There were also 69 attacks on health facilities, 12 of which were out of service, including the International Eye Hospital, Dar Al-Salam, Al-Yemen Al-Saeed, Psychiatric Hospital and Al-Durra Children’s Hospital, he said.

The ministry said 116 workers in the sector died and more than a hundred were injured, while 50 ambulances were damaged by the bombs.

He also warned of the acute shortage of medicine, equipment and skilled workers given the avalanche of injured and sick people.

The ministry emphasized that 1.4 million people had fled due to Israeli bombings.

Of those, 641,000 moved to 150 centers run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East, he added.

About 700,000 people took refuge in the homes of relatives or friends and 121,000 sought shelter in hospitals, churches and other public buildings, he said.
