Franco Nero on From us… Freewheeling: the touching message from Vanessa Redgrave

A “From Us… Free Run” Frank Black traces his career and life in a long interview Francesca Fialdini. As a student of Strehler, at the age of 26 he was already an icon of the spaghetti western thanks to the success of “Django” in Italy. But being “the beautiful one” was never enough for him and so he left Italy as quickly as possible to work with masters like Buñuel and Fassbinder. Today he has over two hundred films and many television series behind him.

But if career is important, at the center of Franco Nero’s life is a novel love story, the one with the British actress Vanessa Redgrave. Franco and Vanessa met on the set of the film “Camelot” in 1967 and it was love at first sight: the two had a son, Carlo Gabriel, but the relationship would end shortly afterwards. Marriages and new loves follow. 40 years later, the flashback in 2006 was initially kept secret and released to the public three years later.

Since then, the two have been inseparable and remain united to this day. So much so that the actress makes a surprise appearance in “Da noi…a freewheel” with a profound and passionate video message that leaves the actor stunned: “My love. I am thinking of you every day. We don’t see.” I would have seen myself often, I would have liked to see you more often… but as you know, my lungs don’t work that well. “We always tried to do our best and there were some fantastic moments…really fantastic!” continues Redgrave. “I’m almost at the end, I’m 86 years old, many older than you! You still have much more to live… I recommend you, my love… my darling! I love you very, very much.”
