In keeping with Canadian golfers’ preference for the Varadero Golf Course, participants from this country achieved the most prizes at the XIII. Edition of the Great Golf Tournament that ended this Saturday in the most famous resort in Cuba.

The Canadians won awards in the professional competition (women), the women’s category, the first and second men’s categories and the best gross women’s category. Meanwhile, Cubans Guillermo Herrera and David Villafaña won the laurels for best result and best skill, respectively.

Herrera, who returned to the competition after ten years, highlights the communication that exists between the players on the course and wishes that these tournaments continue to take place so that Cuba is recognized in international golf.

The competition, which attracted more than 50 participants in Varadero, also included representatives from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain and Vietnam.

The awards ceremony took place at the Xanadú Mansion, where Juan Carlos García Granda, the Cuban Minister of Tourism, arrived to present the awards.

In an exchange with the press, José Tovar, General Director of the Varadero Golf Club, explained that after 25 years of operation, more than 700,000 rounds have been played on the first golf course built in Cuba after 1959. “The challenge is to maintain standards that allow us to match the golf service offered elsewhere in the Caribbean and emissions markets.” This event has helped us gain attention and stay ahead of peak season to be.”

For his part, the director of green operations, Pedro Enrique Klein Rodríguez, recalled that Cuba continues to receive players who “have been participating in our tournament for fifteen years and more.” “We have them here to play today, they are already friends of the golf house and know the goal.”

This 18-hole course is the only one of its kind on La Isla.
