Mr. Terroux died on Saturday morning at the Pierre Boucher Hospital in Longueuil at the age of 81.

Because he was suffering from widespread cancer, he asked for medical help in dying.

“I keep the memory of a man dedicated to the Journal and a great sports enthusiast, especially golf,” said Lyne Robitaille, president and publisher of the Journal de Montréal.

This is another member of the sports journalism community who leaves us shortly after Yvon Pednault and Claude Bédard.

Great career

Gilles Terroux began his career at La Presse, where he followed the activities of the Montreal Canadiens from 1964 to 1971. He experienced the good years of Jean Béliveau as captain and Henri Richard.

When he arrived at the Journal de Montréal, he had the opportunity to cover the series of the century, which pitted Canada against the USSR in 1972. He was then named athletic director until he left the Journal in 1999.

In September 2022, he collaborated with the Journal to look back on his experience with the series of the century. Shortly after this historical series, he wrote a book on the subject together with the photographer Denis Brodeur.

dedication

After retiring from the sports press, he devoted himself to another passion: golf.

He also continued to write while working with Golf Canada and Golf Québec.

Before the illness weakened him, he continued to walk the fairways and greens of Quebec.

A Google search tells us through our former colleague Mario Brisebois that Mr. Terroux played at his age, 79, in June 2021.

He leaves to mourn his wife Nicole and his daughters Chantal and Isabelle.
