Death of a German DJ: Shani Louk, artist kidnapped by Hamas G1

Who is Shani Louk, the DJ who disappeared after a party attacked by Hamas?

DJ Shani Louk was confirmed dead this Monday (30) by the artist’s mother, Ricarda Louk. She was attending the Universo Paralello electronic music party in Israel when Hamas began the war on October 7.

“Unfortunately we received the news yesterday that my daughter is no longer alive,” Ricarda Louk told German broadcaster RTL/ntv.

Her name made headlines around the world after her mother recorded videos calling for her daughter’s rescue after she was recognized as one of the victims kidnapped by the terrorist group (see video below).

The Israeli Foreign Ministry reported this on Monday (30) via social media Shani Louk’s body was “found and identified.”

“We are devastated to announce that the body of 23yearold GermanIsraeli Shani Luk has been found and identified. Shani, who was captured at a music festival and tortured and paraded through Gaza by Hamas terrorists, experienced unimaginable horrors.” Our thoughts and prayers are with Shani’s friends and family during this unimaginable nightmare. May her memory be a blessing,” the ministry wrote.

Days after the war began, Ricarda even said that the video showing the body of a halfnaked woman in the back of a pickup truck driven by armed Hamas members was her 23yearold daughter. Pictures circulating online showed one person even spitting on the body.

Three days after the conflict began, on October 10, Ricarda recorded a new appeal video with new information about her daughter.

“We now have further information that Shani is alive but has a serious head injury and is in a critical situation. Every minute is crucial,” the young woman’s mother said in a video sent to German media at the time.

According to the German magazine Der Spiegel, updates on the young woman’s health were sent to the family by a family friend who is in the Gaza Strip.

He sent a message to the family but said he was not allowed to visit Shani in the hospital where she was believed to be.

“We fully believe it’s Shani,” the friend said.

According to the German magazine Shani, who has Israeli and German citizenship, has never lived in the European country but has visited his grandparents in Ravensburg, BadenWürttemberg, several times. His mother, a Catholic who later converted to Judaism, emigrated to Israel.

Shani’s father is also an Israeli Jew, according to the publication. The family lives about 80 kilometers from the Gaza Strip.
