According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Würzburg district court today suspended the arrest warrant for AfD politician Daniel Halemba under certain conditions. This was preceded by investigations by the Public Prosecutor’s Office against the 22-year-old for inciting hatred and using symbols from anti-constitutional organizations.
Halemba now has to report to the police at her home in Würzburg once a week, said public prosecutor Thorsten Seebach. He is also prohibited from contacting members of the Teutonia Prag zu Würzburg fraternity.
The state parliament abolished immunity
Previously, in a historically extraordinary step in Germany, the Bavarian state parliament had revoked Halemba’s immunity in its constituent session. At the end of today’s meeting, all parliamentary groups except the AfD voted in favor – without the President of the State Parliament, Ilse Aigner (CSU), mentioning her name at the public meeting. The AfD parliamentary group abstained.
An arrest warrant was issued for Halemba on Thursday, and this morning police officers arrested him near Stuttgart. According to the Public Ministry, the investigators’ initial suspicions were confirmed after evaluating the evidence and there was a risk of a blackout. If there is a risk of a blackout, there is a fear that the defendant could influence witnesses or destroy evidence.
