Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns has announced he will be deleting his social media accounts to focus on his music career.

The 44-year-old shared a post on Instagram on Tuesday telling his fans that he will be shutting down his page to focus on his semi-autobiographical feature “What If The Future Never Happened?”

“I’m notoriously bad at stopping and smelling the roses, so I’m putting this up here to remind myself,” he said.

“This will be my last post for 2023 so I can get to work completing the orchestration and end credits sequence for What If The Future Never Happened?”

“I turn off my social media, put my phone in a drawer and get back to work.”

He went on to say that his 2022 album FutureNever was the “most gratifying creative experience of my career” and that he had “never felt more connected to fans.”

“What if the Future Never Happened” is coming in early 2024. “I’m heading off to the studio now to finish the orchestration,” Johns continued.

“Pretty big personal news is that I just signed the most important songwriting deal of my career with BMG, including all of my songs from ‘Frogstomp’ to ‘FutureNever’ and everything in between.”

Johns also revealed he was presented with a giant plaque to mark the announcement of FutureNever as ARIA’s best-selling new Australian album of 2022.

“I don’t actually hang plaques in my house, but I’m hanging this one in my living room because it’s a reminder of the love from all of you and means more than you’ll ever know. “It also shines,” he wrote.

He concluded the post: “I love being a truly independent artist who does everything on my own terms. ‘I love you, I’ll find you in the NeverAfter.’

Johns’ announcement comes after his former Silverchair bandmates Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou revealed exactly how the legendary rock band ended.

In their newly released joint memoir, the pair wrote about Silverchair’s demise, claiming frontman Daniel put them on an “emotional rollercoaster” by breaking up the band multiple times – only to change his mind.

But things finally ended when the trio performed at the Groovin’ The Moo music festival in 2010.

Gillies said that shortly after the performance he received a “confusing call” from Johns in which he said the two words “It’s inevitable.”

While Johns never explicitly said that the band was breaking up, Gillies and Joannou were later informed by their manager that the band was over and that a press release announcing their “indefinite hiatus” would be going out to the media.

“We wanted to scream. “It shouldn’t have ended like this,” the two wrote in their memoirs, according to news.com.au.

“Even though the three of us weren’t on the path to moving forward together, we deserved to perform in a way that celebrated our successes as a band,” they continued.

“If it was really over, we would have deserved better than a press release that left everything in limbo, even if that was the agreed approach.” “At least we owed it to ourselves to have a face-to-face conversation with adults and make the decision together hold true.”
