Steve Ballmer becomes No. 5 on Bloomberg’s billionaires list

Steve Ballmer ranked fifth among the richest people in the world on Monday, according to Bloomberg figures.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the former Microsoft CEO is worth an estimated $117 billion. CNN had previously reported on its ranking.

According to Bloomberg, Ballmer’s most important asset is the 4% of Microsoft shares he holds. He also owns the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers

At the beginning of the year, the former Microsoft CEO was worth around $85.8 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Ballmer worked at Microsoft for over three decades, including nearly 14 years as CEO of the technology company. According to Microsoft, he first became part of the company co-founded by Bill Gates in 1980 when he took on the role of chief executive.

Microsoft’s current CEO, Satya Nadella, assumed the position in February 2014.

According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Gates had a personal fortune of around $122 billion as of Monday. That put Gates one spot ahead of Ballmer on the list.
