Mexico City, October 31 (Prensa Latina) The Mexican Electricians Association (SME) made itself available to the government to help restore power throughout the area of the state of Guerrero affected by Hurricane Otis.
In a statement, the SME offered skilled workers in solidarity with the affected communities.
The statement states that the union and the LF del Centro cooperative have vehicles, equipment and qualified personnel that can help rebuild the transmission lines and distribution networks collapsed by the hurricane.
It reports on a letter to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to Interior Minister Luisa María Alcalde and to Manuel Bartlett Díaz, Director General of the Federal Electricity Commission.
There they reiterate that they are convinced that with their experience and capacity they can make a significant contribution to the restoration of the electrical infrastructure in Guerrero.
The letter, signed by Secretary General Martín Esparza Flores and Foreign Minister José Humberto Montes de Oca Luna, underlines that the situation in Guerrero is critical for its residents.
Many communities do not have access to electricity, so there is an urgent need to help as quickly as possible, especially in low-income communities.
Therefore, they are making their human and technical resources available to assist in these efforts.
The SME Board expressed its belief that its experience and capacity can make a significant difference in the restoration of the electrical infrastructure in Guerrero.
In addition, they have already begun to support the affected communities through a food collection point at the SME’s Deportivo Villa Coapa in Coyoacán, which is open so that the entire population can make solidarity contributions.
