Richard E. Grant paid tribute to his late wife Joan Washington on their 37th wedding anniversary on Wednesday.

Dialect coach Joan tragically passed away in 2021 at the age of 74, eight months after she was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.

The couple met in 1986 and married that same year. They shared a daughter Olivia, 34.

In a post on Twitter, the 66-year-old actor remembered Joan with a series of photos from the past few years.

Alongside the montage, he wrote: “Today’s posthumous 37th wedding anniversary.” “I am deeply grateful for the decades-long partnership I have shared with the extraordinary love of my life, Joan Washington.”

Richard has clearly expressed his grief since losing the love of his life and admitted he has lost friends while battling grief.

At the time of her death they had been together for 38 years.

“After she died I made people cross the street instead of talking,” he said in a conversation at The Times and the Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival.

“Whether they think you’re going to break down and be an emotional wreck, I don’t know. ‘But I’ll never speak to them again.’

He also recalled an incident in which a couple who had been living near his and Washington’s vacation home in Provence ignored him when he waved at them.

He said: “As I walked towards them they both turned their heads. “I thought: ‘F*** you.’ I felt like I was being punished because Joan had died.

“They had never acknowledged it. Maybe they didn’t know how to deal with it.’

Richard announced his wife’s death in September 2021 and posted a heartbreaking video of them dancing together.

“The loss of your life last night breaks our hearts.” 35 years married and 38 together.

“To be truly known and seen by you is your immeasurable gift. Don’t forget us, sweet Monkee-Mione.”
