Shortly after confirming his retirement from professional hockey, former forward Joe Thornton found a new mission: putting together the Canadian team that will compete in the next Spengler Cup, taking place December 26-31 in Davos, Switzerland.
As the TSN network reported on Wednesday, the forty-year-old will work alongside Calgary Flames assistant general manager Brad Pascall to identify the skaters who will represent the country at the competition. This year the presentation will take place for the 95th time. The two men will of course be in charge as managers and will also have to appoint trainers.

Thornton ended his 24-year career in the National Hockey League by announcing his retirement last weekend. He scored a total of 1,055 points in 1,104 regular season games without winning a single Stanley Cup. His last presence in the Bettman circuit dates back to the spring of 2022, when he took part in the playoffs with the Florida Panthers.
