Matthew Perry had no meth or fentanyl in his system at the time of his death: report – New York Post

Matthew Perry’s tragic death was reportedly not the result of an overdose of fentanyl or meth, initial tests show.

The popular actor, who rose to fame after his role in “Friends,” died on Saturday, apparently as a result of a drowning accident at his home in California. He was 54.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that investigators conducted a less detailed test on the actor, which revealed he did not have fentanyl or meth in his system at the time of his death.

In-depth toxicology tests are currently being carried out and it could take months to determine an official cause of death.

Additionally, a cause of death was “deferred.”

The Post has reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department for comment.

Sources told the outlet that prescription medications were found at the property and will be part of the inspection, which is standard practice.

The Post confirmed that officers received a call saying the late actor was in his hot tub and not breathing.

The caller’s identity was not revealed by authorities, although TMZ reported that it was Perry’s assistant who made the call after he returned to the house.

LAPD Capt. Scot Williams, who heads the Robbery-Homicide Unit, said Sunday that “the cause of death may not have been known for some time, but foul play is not suspected at this time.”
