Julia Louis-Dreyfus opened up about being diagnosed with stage two breast cancer in an interview with WSJ the day after she won her sixth consecutive Emmy Award. Magazine, which was published on Wednesday.
The 62-year-old actress spoke about the shock she felt after receiving the news, which she compared to “a terrible black comedy.”
The Seinfeld actress, who was unaware that the creator of the classic sitcom was considering a possible reboot, also spoke about how her life had changed for the better in the years since her diagnosis.
Louis-Dreyfus began by recounting how she received a call from her doctor the morning after she won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Veep in September 2017.
The actor portrayed the series’ main character, Selina Meyer, throughout the series’ entire run, which lasted from 2012 to 2019.

She recalled: “It felt like it was written.” It felt like it was a terrible black comedy. And then it somehow turned into hysterical crying.’
The performer then admitted that after receiving the terrible news, she became fearful for her health, which also helped change her attitude towards mortality.
“You just don’t think about it, you know, it’s kind of like people’s arrogance. “But of course we’re all going to bite into it at some point,” she said.
Louis-Dreyfus was finally declared cancer-free in October 2018 after undergoing a double mastectomy and six rounds of chemotherapy.
The actress also spoke about the positive changes she made in her life after battling the disease.
“I find myself living more mindfully.” “It’s not like it’s screaming at me all the time, but there’s more laser focus,” she said.
The performer opened up about how her battle with breast cancer changed her outlook on life and the benefits of staying stress-free during the 2023 New York Festival held last month.
She explained via People: “I’m just so happy to be here, you know. “I think I’m enjoying things more. I think I’m working hard now to not let my stress seep into my body if I can manage it.”

Although Louis-Dreyfus remained realistic about the difficulty of remaining calm in tense situations, she said the benefits of stress relief were particularly beneficial to her mental and physical health.
“It’s definitely a difficult nut to crack because we’re all stressed out. But it has an impact,” she explained.
The actress concluded by saying that she is committed to maintaining a positive outlook on life despite her battle with breast cancer.
“I’m not necessarily saying stress gave me cancer, but it’s not good for you.” And it’s not a happy place to live, either. So I’m just really focused on enjoying my life as much as possible,” she said.
