The Ministry of Health of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas announced this Wednesday 1 8,796 people died in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war with Israel. The updated figure brings the number of war dead (including Palestinians and Israelis) to over 10,000 on this 26th day of conflict.
According to the agency, 3,648 deaths registered since October 7 include children. A total of 22,219 people were injured in Israeli attacks in the region, the report said.
Israeli government data shows that 1,405 of its citizens have been killed since hostilities began. The vast majority of this group were killed by Hamas in the attack that sparked the current war. Of the total dead, around 300 are soldiers. There are also 5,000 injured.
It is important to note that the numbers on both sides could not be independently confirmed.
On Tuesday, an Israeli attack on the region’s largest refugee camp claimed dozens of lives. According to initial estimates, at least 50 people were killed, including Hamas hostages who were in the area affected by the bombing.
After the attack, Egypt condemned the action and decided to finally open the border to the passage of a group of foreigners and Palestinians staying in Gaza. The country also began accepting injured people for medical care. Around 500 people were already allowed to leave Gaza via Rafah this Tuesday.
Hamas, for its part, continues to clash with Israeli troops in Gaza, but said it would release some of the foreign hostages “in the coming days.” In total, it is estimated that there are more than 200 people in the group that was captured by the Islamists.
