Manufactured culture

Several renowned object designers are exhibiting their creations until Sunday at the Design Center at the University of Quebec in Montreal. Developed by curator and professor of object design Guillaume Sasseville, the “Industrial Crafts” exhibition offers a glimpse into the emerging manufacturing landscape through a selection of 28 objects from as many designers. Most are prototypes or small series, in which the creators have often rethought everyday objects, sometimes by upgrading the materials they had at hand. Apparatus Atelier, Cyrc, Lambert et fils, Zoë Mowat, Atelier Zébulon Perron, barbeau desrosiers and Thom Fougere are among the designers taking part in this exhibition, entry to which is free.

The hilarious parody of Star Wars on repeat

Luke Skywalker (Léonard Châteauvert) and a stormtrooper (Corinne Darcy) in a scene from Star Wars, a musical parody.

The adaptation of Star Wars into a parody musical comedy, which won twice at the last Fringe Festival, will be revived from this Thursday by the cheerful band of the Théâtre de l’Épopée. “The intergalactic adventure 100% Quebec” is based on episodes 4, 5 and 6 of the famous George Lucas saga, here supplemented by choreography and songs. Here the tone is more than relaxed, the manner borders on the absurd and “violence” is replaced by what is the essence of theater: the voluntary gullibility of the audience. Star Wars is completely desecrated here… for our utmost enjoyment. And if you’ve always dreamed of hearing Darth Vader as Céline, now’s your chance!

Various dates until November 23rd at the Théâtre de la Comédie de Montréal

Dany Boudreault burns the boards in Homicide.

The Prospero Theater is currently hosting one of the scariest productions we’ve ever seen. Written by Pascal Brullemans and directed by Nini Bélanger, the play “Homicide” is inspired by the infamous Luka Rocco Magnotta affair. This is an unnecessary murder, an outrage over a corpse, but above all, the assassin’s instinctive need to gain access to some form of celebrity. Dany Boudreault is causing a sensation in the leading role. A powerful and frightening work that will haunt us for a long time.

Until November 11th.

Auditorium

The choreographer Crystal Pite from Canada, appreciated on the world stage, and her accomplice, the playwright Jonathon Young, present their new creation, Assembly Hall, in the federal capital. This work, halfway between theater and dance, brings together eight artists who deal with the need for cohesion and the feeling of belonging. Please note that this Kidd Pivot show, co-produced by the National Arts Center, contains dialogue only in English.
