Gaza challenge on the streets and underground meter by meter

Gaza, challenge on the streets and underground, meter by meter. Hamas emerges from the tunnels with rockets

In the middle of the night, a unit of the Golani Brigade in the Gaza Strip is attacked by guerrillas. They came out of a tunnel, fired anti-tank missiles and used drones. According to the reconstructions, they tried to take possession of the armored vehicles, but were repulsed after hours of fighting. However, a Hamas film shows a militant running up to a tank in broad daylight, placing a charge on the side, returning to the “hole” and then using a rocket launcher. Actions that fix what is happening in Gaza.

The army was surrounded in Gaza City – a spokesman said – after a maneuver from the north and the invasion of the central part up to Rashid Road by the sea: connections with the south were interrupted. He got there after fighting meter by meter and building by building.

Jerusalem sources always provide this description, confirmed by the deaths of numerous soldiers. Young conscripts, paratrooper sergeant Yariv Nifusi, Druze officer Salman Habakah, many of them are experiencing a very harsh conflict for the first time. For the uniformed men and the many civilians who were trapped by the bombing: Here the front line, neighborhood and hinterland are one and the same, with cruel consequences.

The midnight episode describes the double front. There is the superficial structure, made up of buildings now reduced to skeletons, sand dunes, piles of dirt and rubble fashioned into corridors by armored bulldozers. There is the surprise factor, a constant: the Palestinian brigades – al-Qassam, al-Aqsa, al-Quds – try to time the attack when the enemy advances into unknown territory or comes up for air. They don’t use large nuclear weapons, stealthy mortars and snipers, but rely primarily on anti-tank defenses. If the information in the media is correct, most of the soldiers were killed by these missiles.

It is not difficult to hide them in a bunker, they can be easily transported in tunnels, some allow you to attack targets from a long distance. The Palestinians have several types, brought in through illegal trade through Egypt or manufactured in Gaza’s factories. People of North Korean origin appeared in the attack on October 7th. In a video just released by the movement, the devices can be seen being manufactured at an unidentified location.

Hamas investigated previous crises, provided the Mujahideen with brief information about the vulnerabilities of armored vehicles depending on the model, and sought advice from the Iranians or Hezbollah. Israel has equipped some of the vehicles with a device designed to intercept the “arrows” but, like any shield, can be pierced.

The second front is now obvious, represented by the tunnel network. The ambush attackers emerged from one of these “openings” in a usual pattern. And the General Staff stated that infantrymen and special forces had begun destroying the located tunnels.

It was not necessary to “send men in,” explained a former officer; it was enough to “seal” them. True, although in some cases it can be useful to search them for information. Additionally, these “covered” trenches have multiple exit points to ensure mobility. The operations are carried out with the support of intelligence services and aviation: now the times between the request for a raid and the actual operation have been shortened.
