Songwriter Vince Vance, whose real name is Andy Stone, filed a second copyright lawsuit in federal court in Los Angeles on Wednesday, claiming the singer stole his 1989 song of the same name.
“Carey misappropriated these works without a license and dismissed their origins as if they were her own,” Vince Vance’s lawyers wrote in the lawsuit, Billboard reports. “Her hubris knows no bounds, not even her contributing songwriter believes the story she told. This is simply a criminal case of forgery.”

Vince Vance had already filed a copyright lawsuit against the singer. The new motion was filed on behalf of a new legal team that included Gerard P. Fox, who represented two songwriters who accused Taylor Swift of stealing their lyrics to create her song “Shake It Off.”
“The phrase ‘All I want for Christmas is you’ may seem trite today, but in 1988 it was unique in context,” the document continues. Furthermore, the combination of the specific chord progression in the melody and the lyric hook was more than 50% a clone of Vance’s original work, both in the choice of lyrics and expression of the chords. »
Mariah Carey’s 1994 song “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the past four holidays.
