United States: Pilot crashes and gets stuck in alligator infested waters for 9 hours

On Halloween, an American pilot crashed in Florida. He was stuck for hours in waters where alligators lived.

A particularly spooky Halloween day. In Florida, USA, a pilot experienced a doubly difficult situation. While at the controls of a small passenger plane, an anonymous pilot crashed into waters infested with alligators, many mosquitoes and pythons.

It was Miami firefighters who told this unusual story, supported by video of the rescue. On their Facebook page, they explain that they were called around 10 a.m. after receiving an emergency report.

“The air ambulance service… arrived on scene to conduct a helicopter lift operation to rescue the patient from the crashed aircraft and provide him with medical care. An adult patient was rescued, exited the aircraft safely and was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Broward County,” a description reads.

Injured in the leg

According to CBSNews, the pilot, the only person on board, spent nine hours in the swamp among alligators and mosquitoes. The shock left him with a leg injury and he had to be airlifted to a nearby hospital.

He had to wait the whole time on one wing of the plane, which was slowly sinking into the mud. The circumstances that led to this crash could not be clarified; the authorities have launched an investigation.
