Galaxy S24: Samsung’s strategy is confirmed thanks to Qualcomm – Journal du geek

Samsung will re-examine its strategy around the SoC of its Galaxy S. Qualcomm boss Cristiano Amon hints that his company will be responsible for producing the majority of the chips for the Galaxy S24. A publication that tends to confirm that high-end smartphones will be available in two versions. The first with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and the other with the Exynos 2400 developed by Samsung.

Samsung almost backs down

It is not the first time that the manufacturer has offered different versions. In the past, Samsung has often released different variants depending on the market. Galaxy S22s sold in Europe featured an Exynos 200 chip, while models launched in the US or South Korea featured a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. A strategy that is not very advantageous for French consumers since the Snapdragon version is generally more efficient.

Last year the company abandoned the idea and opted for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 worldwide. A short-term strategy that would therefore not be renewed with the future Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra. However, Samsung wouldn’t completely go back to the old formula.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for all Galaxy S24 Ultra?

The Qualcomm CEO’s details come as part of an exchange surrounding the partnership with his company and Samsung. The chip specialist is satisfied with the partnership with the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer. He adds that the manufacturer will have a “really great” chip and the Galaxy S24 range should still be entitled to preferential treatment. Like last year, Samsung would equip its S models with a modified “for Galaxy” version with a higher clock frequency.

According to leaker Ice Universe, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy would benefit from a GPU that can operate at a frequency of 1,000 MHz. It would be 39% faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy GPU, clocked at 719 MHz. As a reminder, the basic version runs at 680 Hz, while the frequency of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is not yet known.

In Europe it is expected that this chip will not be seen in the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+. Samsung should instead focus on the Exynos 2400, which we expect after a long time to have the disappointing Exynos 2200 SoC. However, the Korean company could definitely offer us the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy in its Galaxy S24 Ultra. According to rumors, the highest-end model will have a Qualcomm chip, regardless of which country it is marketed in.

We’ll have to wait a few more weeks until we discover the Galaxy S24. Samsung is expected to announce it in January 2024, a little earlier than usual.
