An important gala for Lisa LeBlanc: “Thanks to ADISQ, the song started playing on the radio”

The ADISQ Gala, what is Ossa giving? For artists who win a Félix or sing during the show, it can open the doors to radio stations, answers Lisa LeBlanc.

The Acadian artist says she noticed “a direct impact” when she was invited to sing with Édith Butler at the 2022 gala.

“I had done Why Do Today and [grâce à] ADISQ, the song started playing on the radio. She hasn’t played before. For an Acadian artist to have their song played on commercial radio is huge,” says Lisa LeBlanc.

ADISQ was good for them last year. Lisa LeBlanc was a finalist in six categories, including coveted songwriter, songwriter and performer of the year, and won the Félix for Pop Album and Director of the Year for her acclaimed Chiac Disco.

She continues to ride the Chiac disco wave in 2023. With five awards, just one less than front-runner Daniel Bélanger, she is in the running for the Félix, which is in the categories “Album of the Year – Popular Success”, “Artist – International Influence”, “Show of the Year”, “Artist” and “Song of the Year” (Im Saft).

She assures that she is not looking for honor. The nomination alone is the final straw, but if there’s one Felix she’d be proud to take home, it’s the one reserved for the Best in Show award.

“I make albums so I can do shows. That’s what I enjoy most, both hosting the show and doing it myself. I love that.”

Return to Europe

That’s good, his concert schedule for the next few months is currently full.

After the ADISQ gala she will pack her bags. Heading to Europe, where she will begin a tour in France, Great Britain and Belgium on November 8th.

“We’ve been there many times before, but this time it’s a little crazy because we’re going to do Zenith. I do not believe it. We will be performing in small venues, but also opening acts for the group Shaka Ponk in Zéniths,” exclaims Lisa LeBlanc, barely hiding her excitement (that is, not at all).

Lisa Symphony

Upon her return, she will give a few concerts in the United States in December before diving headlong into preparations for a project that is very close to her heart: the translation of her album Chiac Disco and some other titles into symphonic concerts in her repertoire.

Four performances are planned in Quebec, Montreal and Ottawa in February and March.

“Chiac Disco was of course inspired by disco and funk, but also by the exaggerated arrangements of the 1970s with lots of orchestration. That’s why I love this music so much. One of my big influences is Lee Hazlewood, the one who wrote “These Boots Are Made For Walkin'”. “He’s one of my favorite arrangers,” says the woman who had considered joining the pop artists who have been working with an orchestra for a long time.

“There I have the unique opportunity to finally do the melodies (from Chiac Disco) with more than just one person. When we recorded in the prison, it was one person at a time. There we will really hear it as it was written. »

  • Lisa LeBlanc’s symphony concerts will be performed at the Grand Théâtre de Québec on February 8 and 9, at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier in Montreal on March 1, and at the National Arts Center in Ottawa on March 15.
