The Concordia Stingers’ ground attack exploded in a win over the Université de Montréal Carabins with gains of 217 yards and nearly 40 minutes of possession, but Glen Constantin has concerns about the intentions of his next opponents.

The Stingers ranked first in the RSEQ with an average of 150.9 yards per game. “The Stingers rely on two very good carriers [Franck Tchembe et Dwante Morgan]But their first rank is misleading, emphasized the head coach of the Rouge et Or. They rely on an RPO-type offense [run pass offense] And they benefit from teams that unload their defensive box and make themselves more vulnerable to stop the run.
“It is certain that we will need a narrow front and that we cannot gain an average of five yards on a first down, otherwise we will be in trouble,” the Laval pilot continued. It’s a question of mathematics.”
New identity?
Have the Stingers changed their identities? “Not at all,” head coach Brad Collinson responded. We take what the opponent gives us. Against a five-man box defense, we run and pass against a six-man box. We have two very good running backs and an improved offensive line. Our newcomers in 2022 have gained experience and the trainers have done a good job.
The Rouge et Or finished 4th in the RSEQ with an average of 119.2 yards per game, and the leading rusher was quarterback Arnaud Desjardins with gains of 242 yards. Despite the Rouge et Or’s running problems, Collinson assures that he will not focus all efforts on stopping the aerial game.
“Racing is part of the Rouge et Or’s DNA, especially in November,” he said. Laval has had success in the past when passing the ball. I know Carl [Brennan] and coaches for a long time and I am sure they have worked hard to rectify the situation.
Eliminative baptism for a fast trader
While he won’t be a starter, Shawn Valentine could bring an element of speed that the Rouge et Or has been missing this season. The running back was used in four games and had 135 yards on 22 carries. Angel Vital will be the starter.
“I’m really looking forward to playing my first game in the playoffs,” said the speed dealer. I take up more space in the offensive plans and want to take advantage of all the opportunities that come my way.
“If we run well, it will open the pass,” Valentine added. This is the first time I haven’t trained with a limited number of games. I have more confidence in pass protection. I want to score a touchdown at home in front of everyone.”
