Coronation Street producer Ian MacLeod has hinted that legendary villain Harvey Gaskell will return to the cobbles next year.
Will Mellor, 47, who played the gangster, will reprise his role and take part in an explosive storyline with Adam Barlow, played by Sam Robertson, and Damon Hay, played by Ciaran Griffiths, who is also returning to the soap.
In addition, the love triangle between Adam, Sarah Barlow, played by Tina O’Brien, and Damon will be revisited in the new year.
Iain confirmed that Damon’s imminent return will be driven by a thirst for revenge against Adam.
The soap boss also revealed that the gangster has been longing for Sarah for months.
Surprise: Coronation Street producer Ian MacLeod has hinted that legendary villain Harvey Gaskell will return to the stage next year and Will Mellor will reprise his role in the soap
Ian told The Sun: “I felt like there was a really intense feeling between the two of them, there was a really natural chemistry and connection and he’s coming back with kind of a two-pronged plan.”
‘[But] As it subsides, Damon’s revenge may take a back seat to his feelings for Sarah.’
He went on to say that Adam would become increasingly worried about Damon’s return and his potential interest in Sarah. To protect her, he begins to consider the idea of ”getting rid of” Damon, setting the stage for a shocking assassination attempt and the reemergence of Will’s character.
As Damon begins to calm down, Adam’s obsession with removing him intensifies, causing him to turn to the villain Harvey.
Harvey, who shares Adam’s dislike of Damon, considers forming an unconventional alliance to solve their shared problem.
They believe that by working together they can find a solution to Damon’s dilemma.
The dramatic scenes will air early next year and Iain confirmed that viewers will be very excited to see the storyline.
He said: “There are fantastic actors, like all our stories, the plot is full of twists and tension.”

Will, best known for his role in Two Pints of Lager, took on the menacing drug lord last year.
Speaking about joining the Weatherfield cast at the time, Will said: “It’s an honor to be invited to Coronation Street, it’s such an iconic show and a big part of my family life.”
“When I started acting 32 years ago, it was my mother’s dream to star in Corrie and I’m glad I can finally make it come true. “It’s a Manchester institution and being a Manchester actor is this definitely a must.
“Harvey is the first real villain I’ve ever played. It’s a very different type of role for me, so I’m looking forward to getting into the character and making a splash.”
