Hamburg Airport was closed after a vehicle entered the location. An armed man drove his vehicle through a gate at around 8 p.m. and entered the airport forecourt, Federal Police spokesman Thomas Gerbert told the German Press Agency on Saturday night. The man had a gun and had already fired twice into the air. He probably has two children on board.
The man’s wife had previously reported a possible child abduction to state police, the spokesman said. The newspaper “Bild” reported it for the first time.
Strong state and federal law enforcement are on scene, Gerbert said. They were close to the vehicle. This also includes the Federal Police Evidence and Prisons Unit. “They are very robustly equipped,” Gerbert said.
Hamburg airport had already been closed in October, but at that time due to a threat of attack on a plane from Tehran to Hamburg.
Air traffic was completely halted and all terminals closed. The police are mobilized with a large contingent and the anti-terrorist unit GSG 9 may also have been called.
