Hamburg airport was closed after a gunman smashed a gate with his vehicle, entered the airport grounds, shot twice into the air and threw two fire bottles. A federal police spokesman said this, saying there were no injuries. The wife had previously reported a possible kidnapping of a minor and, as far as we know, the man has a child with him. On X, the Hamburg police spoke about a possible hostage-taking. There is a heavy state and federal police presence on site, with units stationed near the vehicle in question.
What happened
According to information from Bild, the man was seen in an Audi without a license plate in front of Terminal 1 at Helmut Schmidt Airport. He then sped away and a few minutes later crashed his car through a security barrier at the north gate. Meanwhile, air traffic in Hamburg was stopped and police forces and helicopters intervened. Normally six take-offs and 21 landings were planned from Hamburg Airport this evening.
