SLIPKNOT has separated from the long-time drummer Jay Weinberg.
Today (Sunday November 5th) the band released the following statement via social media: “We would like to thank you Jay Weinberg for his commitment and passion over the last ten years. Nobody can ever replace Joey JordisonOriginal sound, style or energy, but Jay honored Joey‘s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band and the fans appreciate that. But as always, SLIPKNOT strives to develop further. The band has decided to make a creative decision and part ways Jay. We wish Jay All the best and we are very excited about the future.”
Vineyard played his last show SLIPKNOT last Friday (November 3rd) in Hell heaven Festival in Toluca, Mexico. Fan-filmed video of the concert can be seen below.
The now 33 year old Jay discovered SLIPKNOT when he was a teenager, by his father Maxfrom Bruce Springsteen‘S E STREET BANDand leader of the house band Conan O’Brien‘s talk show. He was immediately hooked and a big fan of SLIPKNOT When he was invited to Los Angeles to try out as a replacement Joey Jordison In 2013.
For the first few months after the 2014 release “.5: The Gray Chapter”the members of SLIPKNOT had refused to name the musicians who played drums and bass on their tour, although their identities were revealed Vineyard and bassist Alessandro “Vman” Venturella from a disgruntled former drum tech for SLIPKNOT who posted a picture of a backstage call sheet Instagram.
SLIPKNOT announced his separation from Jordison in December 2013, but did not provide any information about the reasons for his exit. The drummer then made a statement saying that he had not left the group.
Jordison died “peacefully in his sleep” in July 2021 for an unknown reason. He was 46 years old.
Asked in an interview with Music Radar how respectful he had to be JoeyHis legacy and how much he felt free to make it his own, Vineyard said: “I have a lot of respect for the band’s music, I have a lot of respect for Joey Jordison As a person and as a player, I understood my role was to provide the band with what they needed and to understand what Joey brought to the table, and that the legacy of this band will be carried on in a way that respects the Maggots, the band’s fans, and that the nine of us are proud of the music we create.
“Of course the band’s history factors into my opinion of the band, but when it came time to develop new material and new songs, I didn’t think about it Joey Jordison “A little,” he continued. “And I think it would be disrespectful to do that, and the band wanted me to be myself.” Because why would I want to be that? Joey Jordisonwhy should I try to emulate what he did?
“JoeyHe is one of the greatest drummers we have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. As a fan of the band and someone who respects the people and the music, I didn’t want to come in and try to be a copycat. That’s not interesting for me, that’s not interesting for the band and it would be an insult to everyone involved, including the fans.
In an interview in May 2023 with Danny Wimmer presents‘S “Hour of Power”, Jay thought about his first concert SLIPKNOTwhich took place in October 2014 Knot tight in San Bernardino, California. He said: “I had joined the band about a year before our first gig together, so we made a record and jammed. And we had a kind of catwalk before our first performance. But yeah, man, nothing – I’ve said it before, but it’s like nothing… I could have had years and years and years to prepare for my first time SLIPKNOT show. There was really nothing that could prepare us for that first moment when the curtain goes up, we have our masks on, we have our outfits on, everyone is there. That was like the key moment. Especially after a year of knowing. I’m waiting for this moment. What will happen at this first show? What will it smell like? How will it feel? All these things and I’m just trying to prepare myself as best as I can for this moment. And there was no preparation for this moment. It was really like the guys had described it to me, that every night it was like you just got off a plane and you just had to figure it out. And so this first evening was certainly special in that respect. And I feel like we’ve just been building it over the last decade.”
Before joining SLIPKNOT, Vineyard was a member of AGAINST ME!after playing with the Florida-based act from November 2010 to December 2012.
Vineyard joined AGAINST ME! shortly after he was ousted MADBALL and after the departure of AGAINST ME!‘s former stick figure, George Rebelo.
in May 2013 Vineyard filled in for KVELERTAK drummer Kjetil Gjermundrod during the band’s North American tour, because Gjermundrod had to stop the run after experiencing severe pain in his arm.
Last June SLIPKNOT announced the addition of a new keyboardist, two weeks after the band announced the departure of their longtime member Craig Jones.
SLIPKNOT played his first show with his new Mystery member on June 7th at Nova Rock Festival in Austria. The concert took place hours after the band announced in a social media post that they had parted ways Jones.
No reason was given for this Jones‘s farewell to SLIPKNOT.
