GREEN BAY – The Packers ended their four-game losing streak with a 20-3 victory over the Rams on a drizzly Sunday at Lambeau Field.
Here are five takeaways from the win:
“It feels good to be able to celebrate in the locker room,” head coach Matt LaFleur said of his team after improving to 3-5. “I think this will hopefully give us some energy.”
His quarterback would agree.
“100 percent,” Jordan Love said. “It feels great to get a win.”
The Packers’ lead was just 7-3 late in the third quarter, due to a slew of mistakes that unfortunately made much of this game seem like much of last month.
- Right defenseman Jon Runyan was cited for wearing his helmet too far forward for lining up in the neutral zone on two sneaks in the fourth and first. Rumor has it that the league is now emphasizing short-yardage focus and players are having to adapt.
- A dropped pass by rookie Malik Heath, a sack by Love despite good defense and a false start by rookie receiver Jayden Reed almost lost the chance for a field goal at the end of the first half. The Packers still managed to punt the ball, but rookie Anders Carlson still missed the ball from 48 yards.
- The second half began with rookie receiver Dontayvion Wicks and veteran running back Aaron Jones losing fumbles on the first two drives.
“It wasn’t the most perfect game by any means, and there are a lot of things to clean up,” LaFleur said. “But I was proud of the boys in terms of their ability to continue to compete at a high level.”
There were plenty of positives: Jones managed 99 yards from scrimmage (73 rushing, 26 receiving) and a touchdown, Love completed 20 of 26 yards for 228 yards (115.5 passer rating) and the ground game produced 184 rushing yards total .
