Flames forward Andrew Mangiapane was suspended for one game by the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety on Sunday.
On Saturday, he made a gesture of rather inexplicable violence during his team’s game against the Seattle Kraken.
The incident occurred in the middle of the first third. During a Flames attack, Mangiapane tried to retrieve a puck that Seattle forward Jared McCann was holding.
The Flames player’s reflex was to throw a double punch behind McCann’s head while simultaneously smashing his face into the ice. The referees did not hesitate to punish Mangiapane and eject him from the game.
