DThe autumn holiday in Germany ended with an adventurous trip for the Mauser family from Breitenau: a hostage taking at Hamburg airport led to an unplanned odyssey back home.
It was supposed to be a great few days with friends in Hamburg for Andreas, Carina, Johanna and Alexander Mauser. “So they were. “Until the last day”, Andreas Mauser reflects on the adventurous end of the holiday in an interview with NÖN. In fact, the family was supposed to disembark in Schwechat on Sunday at 10am, but a major police operation, including the closure of Hamburg airport for several hours, interrupted the plan: a man had a car and his son on board. on Saturday night he headed to Hamburg airport – then shots were fired and incendiary devices were even thrown. On Sunday afternoon, the hostage taking, which was likely based on a custody dispute, ended without bloodshed.
But the Mauser family was already on the train. “After four hours of calls, Austrian Airlines finally got tickets for a flight from Hanover to Vienna. We then took the train from Hamburg to Hanover, where we briefly met football fans from Braunschweig at the train station. Just before midnight we were finally home. A great adventure for children, but a very unnecessary and somewhat stressful experience for adults”, says Mauser.
