The Lord of the Rings director, who shot the Now and Then music video using footage from his 2021 documentary Get Back, spoke to The Sunday Times about the possibility.
“We can take a performance of Get Back, remove John and George, and then have Paul and Ringo add a chorus or harmonies,” the 62-year-old filmmaker explained. We could get a decent song, but I haven’t talked to Paul about it yet.
He added: “It’s a fans thing, but it’s totally achievable.”
Peter Jackson also shared his thoughts on Now and Then with the release. “It’s not a classic like ‘I Am the Walrus’ or ‘Penny Lane’ – it’s not as complex either. It’s simple but with a haunting dimension,” he explained.
“When people ask me why I love the Beatles, I simply answer that they make me happy,” he adds. In the world we live in now, we need the reappearance of the Beatles, as if a flying saucer had landed, descended and given us their last song to cheer us up.”
Since the track’s release four days ago, “Now and Then” has been streamed 8.3 million times on Spotify and Peter Jackson’s official music video has been viewed 19 million times on YouTube.
