Lotto Max: $55 million loot for this couple from Estrie

Just hours after handing out candy to children in their neighborhood on October 31, a couple from Coaticook in Estrie hit a monstrous $55 million jackpot.

It was the day after Halloween when Jean Larocque and his partner Catherine Ennis learned of their lucky break, as routine took its place in their lives again.

It must be said that the morning looked normal when Mr. Larocque, who had recently taken advantage of a Lotto Max win to secure a quick win, went to the Loto-Québec website to check his ticket. As he said this, he saw the amount of $55,000,000 appear on the screen.

“I didn’t understand it. I said, ‘Wow, that’s not normal,’ so I looked at the numbers and saw that it was,” the man said as he claimed his winnings at the Loto office in Quebec on Monday received.

Meanwhile, his partner was in the kitchen cooking oatmeal pancakes, unaware that her life had just changed.

“She said to me, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll make my own oatcake.'” And there I was [à dire] “Yeah, but we won.” I turned pale and started shaking. I sat down and she saw that it was true,” Mr. Larocque continued.

For some, winning such an incredible amount on Halloween may be scary, but not for the couple who want to continue their little life, perhaps with a trip or a new car as a “splurge.”

“We have a simple life and we want to keep it that way. We plan to donate to organizations that we really care about and know,” said Mr. Larocque.

The avid fly fisherman also plans to spend time with both feet in the water.

“I haven’t caught a trout yet to tell you how lucky I am [d’habitude]”, he laughed.
