Mexico and the United Nations highlight strategic dialogue

According to the text, it was a meeting of the Joint Steering Committee of the United Nations Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development in Mexico (2020-2025) with the aim of monitoring the initiatives and programs that the UN system is implementing in the country to accelerate action on Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Bárcena and Grohmann chaired the meeting of the committee, which brings together the 25 agencies of the United Nations system in Mexico and the different areas of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that oversee the implementation of programs and initiatives according to the areas of the Cooperation Framework.

The strategic alliance between the Mexican government and the United Nations system has led to important achievements toward a more egalitarian and sustainable Mexico, Bárcena said.

Among these, initiatives such as “Closing Gaps” should be highlighted, which promoted access to social protection for more than 54,000 domestic workers, agricultural workers and women working in the care sector.

In addition, there is the Territorial-Industrial Future Atlas to support urban-regional planning and to create jobs.

During the meeting, cooperation was highlighted in key strategic areas in the country, such as the container control program to detect illicit trafficking, issues related to enforced disappearances and the forensic crisis, as well as human mobility, among many others.

For his part, Grohmann emphasized Mexico’s commitment to promoting multilateralism and its foreign policy, which promotes peace, international security and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
