He uses the introductory gala of the Panthéon des Sports du Québec to get to know his idol

Patrick Dom attended the Panthéon des Sports du Québec induction gala in Montreal on Monday evening to receive a tribute to the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. But the general director of the event, which is celebrating its 64th anniversary, had another idea: he wanted to meet his idol.

Arriving early at the Anjou Metropolitan Golf Club, Dom did not hesitate when journalist, presenter and commentator Jean-Paul Chartrand Sr. arrived to meet him.

“It is a monument to sport. When I see Mr. Chartrand on TV, he’s always there. He expresses himself very well, he is just like an oak tree, although he has it [92 ans]. His comments are always timely, precise and clear. It’s flawless. He’s a bit like the René Lecavalier of boxing,” said Dom, who recalled that 1,365 players competed in the Quebec Pee-Wee tournament before making the jump to the NHL, the last in line being Connor Bedard.

Mr. Chartrand, the boxing journalist who began his successful career at the Journal de Montréal in 1964, was employed as a builder.

“I’ll never retire,” he said proudly.

Jasey-Jay Anderson (snowboarding), Marie-Claude Asselin (freestyle ski jumping), Meaghan Benfeito (diving), Vincent Damphousse (hockey), Roseline Filion (diving), Charles Hamelin (short track speed skating) and Monique Lefebvre (adapted sports) . Baumeister) were also inducted into the Quebec Hall of Fame.
