Corrado Augenias announced his departure from Rai and his arrival at La7 yesterday, November 6th. On Urbano Cairo television he will present “La Torre di Babele” from Monday, December 4th. The primetime program will have a guest in each episode. Today, in an article in Repubblica, the journalist and writer explains his choice based on Fabiano Fabiani’s story about Rai: “When I joined the company (July 1, 1960, through a competition), Rai was a fiefdom of the Christian Democrats. Shortly afterwards, Ettore Bernabei became Dominus, the DC was his party, Amintore Fanfani was the contact person. The political atmosphere was tight, but the cultural level made Rai one of the best European television channels.”
Pluralism and division
He then talks about the transfer of control of the company from the government to parliament in 1975 and about the pluralism guaranteed by “a scientific form of parcelling”, with the first network going to the Christian Democrats, the second to the Socialists and the third to the communists. An approximate and incompetent government
According to Augias, an “inept and incompetent” government “has achieved the greatest possible efficiency in the progressive destruction of Italian radio and television.” In recent months I have experienced amateurism, careless decisions, the assumption that one character is as good as another, the ignorance that the effectiveness of television is a delicate mix of professionalism and consistency with the subject, and the forgetfulness of that He cannot enforce cultural hegemony, experiences placing a loyal follower here and there. These are matters (not the only ones, after all) in which competence must take precedence over loyalty. This, he says, drove him out of Rai, “without the need for anyone to ask me to sit.” If I had been younger, I would have stayed and, if possible, tried to balance the drift somewhat. But I am old and, as long as I have sufficient consensus, I would like to continue working with friendly people in a friendly environment.
