Residents on the outskirts of Vancouver, Canada, became frightened when they saw pink lights in the sky in the early hours of Monday (6). Police in the city of Delta, which is in the region, explained the phenomenon: a marijuana greenhouse.

Residents took photos and videos of the pink sky and posted them on social media. On Twitter, one netizen wrote: “It’s 2am. Who can explain this beautiful pink sky to me?”

The post received more than 60 comments, and other residents reported seeing the sky the same way. Some people even hypothesized an Aurora Borealis, while others toyed with the possibility that it was an alien spacecraft.

However, Delta police revealed the secret and responded to the post on Twitter: “If I tell you, you will be disappointed,” they wrote.

“Delta has several commercial greenhouses that produce marijuana. ‘Purple’ light is used in the greenhouses to support the growth cycle. They are rarely used, but when they are, violet light pollution occurs. Nothing exotic!” posted the police.

The netizen who asked about the lights in the post replied to the police in a good mood and confirmed that she was disappointed.

“I was busy packing for the impending arrival of the mothership that was coming to pick me up,” he joked.
