Suzie Villeneuve: “It was the journey I had to take to feel whole”

Suzie Villeneuve presented the first part of her new album “From the head to the heart,” her first as a singer-songwriter, at Piccolo Studios on Tuesday.

It’s a project she’s been working on for a long time and has also completed the triptych begun in recent years with her eponymous conference show and book.

More confident and liberated, the 40-year-old singer admitted in an interview with the QMI agency that she has long been haunted by the fact that she gave up her passion and tried to do something else to earn a living, how a huge abyss developed within her.

“Ultimately, it’s a return to the heart of who I am, to the music that inspired several songs on this album,” she then explained.

“I had given up music, was doing different things and was still searching for myself. I felt like a big emptiness inside me and at some point I had to do some cleaning, with assistance of course, but remove the dust, all the carpet, “It was the music that kept appearing,” said the singer, who gradually began to write and rediscovered the joy of singing in her car.

This change in her life began in 2016. “For me, it was the journey I needed to take to feel whole,” she said, inspired.

A simple album

Writing was definitely a saving grace for Suzie Villeneuve. She also finds it much easier to write her own songs than to rely on an author. It only took him 5, 10 or even 15 minutes to write most of the lyrics to his songs.

“If it’s hard, it’s because I’m not in the right place,” she added with a laugh, leaning on one of the sofas at Piccolo Studios.

His new work obviously reflects his introspective journey and his insights of recent years, in particular the piece “Lettre à mon ange”, written for his son Édouard, and “La route ensemble”, which evokes the bond of a couple, a family but also the feeling of freedom she feels on her mountain bike excursions.

The singer also covers the piece “À ma Manner” by Diane Juster, who also agreed to provide the piano score, although she initially rejected the offer.

Christmas and Star Academy

Suzie Villeneuve is a great lover of the magic of Christmas – her tree has been ready since November 1st – and will have the pleasure of singing the hymn “All I Want For Christmas Is You” during the “Christmas a tradition in song” , which will begin in Saguenay at the end of the month.

In January it’s the turn of the show “And it’s not done”, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of the first version of Tele-Hook, filmed in Montreal and Quebec. After gathering the first former academics for the song “From Dream to Reality” last year, Suzie Villeneuve can’t wait to get involved and is still excited to see how it comes together.

“I would never have put this idea, a night bubble, into practice before. It was a wonderful experience bringing together my brothers and sisters from the Academy last November. And to see everyone go and redesign the Bell Center is completely crazy,” she said.

The album “From the head to the heart” is available on listening platforms. The show “Christmas a tradition in song” is on tour until December 23rd. For all dates click here.
